Lehman Bros has applied for bankruptcy. Along with Merryl Lynch and Lehman Bros, another firm is now in deep trouble, $ 1 trillion American International Group, the world’s largest insurance company in the world.
S & P opines that the American crisis will trigger problems in EU and Japan. In India, the BPO firms will be hit, Infosys, Satyam, Citi BPO, Genpact etc.
In the housing sector, UK faces more problems than the US.
JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs are trying to resuscitate the ailing AIG. AIG had asked for a loan of $40 billion from the Federal Reserve. The Fed is not sympathetic to this idea. If help is not forthcoming, AIG will have to go the way of Lehman Bros.
The fallout of the American banking sector will have severe repercussions on India, as FDI may slow down. FII investments to India will also slow down.
Indian realty companies will be severely affected. DLH, Shobha, Brigade, Purvankara etc.
Lehman Bros has given 700 crores BPO order to Indian companies. TCS, Wipro, Infy etc will be affected.
We advise investers to hold on. Do not invest unnecessarily in the Stock Market, as global factors are negative. Also the celestial factors !
